South African iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders are open, with 256GB cash listings from R27,099 and local availability starting 18 September.
South African buyers can now place orders for Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro range, with local retail listings appearing ahead of an 18 September in-store release. The first cash prices visible through major local sellers put the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro at roughly R27,099 to R28,799, while Incredible Connection lists the 256GB Pro Max at R31,299.
That spread matters. Apple’s South African newsroom carries the global launch announcement but quotes US pricing, so it should not be read as an official local recommended retail price. Wootware’s R27,099 figure is an EFT price and its listing still says to contact the retailer for availability, while Incredible Connection shows a higher R28,799 price with delivery estimated at seven to nine working days.
Vodacom World has separately opened pre-orders and says both Pro models will be available in-store from Friday, 18 September. Its first 100 pre-order customers are being offered AirPods 4 valued at R2,599, giving buyers another reminder that launch-week deals can change the effective price without changing the handset’s sticker price.
Apple’s main hardware change is the new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Six physical blades allow the camera to change aperture, and Apple has added manual controls for aperture, shutter speed and white balance inside the Camera app. That is a more meaningful photography change than another resolution increase because it gives users direct control over light and depth of field.
The phones are powered by the A20 Pro, which Apple says is built on a 2-nanometre process. The chip combines a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple also redesigned the thermal system around a larger vapour chamber, with the company claiming up to a 40% gain in sustained performance over the previous Pro generation.
Both models start at 256GB and run through 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations. The colour line-up is black, silver, glacier and burgundy. The Pro uses a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max remains the larger option.
Battery claims have also moved. Apple says the Pro can reach up to 34 hours of video playback and the Pro Max up to 43 hours, although real-world results will depend heavily on 5G use, camera workloads, brightness and background activity.
The immediate issue is less about whether the iPhone 18 Pro is coming to South Africa and more about which local configuration and price a buyer actually gets. Wootware explicitly says the South African SIM configuration is still pending supplier confirmation on its listing. That makes it worth checking the exact regional model before paying, particularly for buyers who care about physical SIM support.
The launch also lands alongside iOS 27, which Apple scheduled as a free update from 14 September. Apple Intelligence is supported in English, but individual AI features can still vary by region. South African buyers should therefore separate the hardware specifications from software features that may not all arrive locally at the same time.
For now, R27,099 is the lowest major-retailer cash listing we found for the 256GB Pro, but it comes with an availability caveat. Incredible Connection’s R28,799 listing is higher, and the Pro Max begins there at R31,299. Those are useful launch-week reference points rather than a single settled South African street price.
What remains unresolved is how quickly all four colours and storage tiers will be available across local channels, what the major mobile operators will charge on contract, and whether the lower cash listings hold once stock starts moving on 18 September.
